Mario Bros
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987An old arcade classic undergoes a baffling reincarnation, thanks to Ocean. Since the arcade version is pretty old, it's no trick at all to knock out a Commodore 64 version that's just as good. And Mario Bros is indeed a really neat conversion: the graphics are good and there's nothing to complain about in the sound either.
The idea of the game, of course, is to run around the platforms and pipes knocking enemies off the platforms. The one-player version is pretty dry, and it doesn't hold the interest for long. But throw two players into the ring and the game becomes something else entirely. The two players can play either cooperatively or competing for points.
Even though this is the very jumping game that started all jumping games, nobody has surpassed it. Clever use of sprites, splendid sound effects and brilliant playability together make a game that needn't be the least bit ashamed of its re-release. Tip: play against your mate, not as a team!
