1987Electric on siirtänyt aiemmin kasetilla julkaistun hyvän autourheilupelinsä COB-tekniikalla toteutetulle luottokorttimoduulille. Autourheilupelejä on maailmalla julkaistu monia, useimmissa ollaan formula 1 -kisoissa. Le Mans on nimensä mukaan kuuluisan 24 tunnin urheiluautokisan tietokoneversio. Peliä ei kuitenkaan pelata 24 tuntia, lyhyempi aika riittää.
Kuvaruudulla on näkymä urheiluauton ratin takaa. Edessä on ohjauspyörä, vaihteisto, mittaristo ja sivupeilit. Autosi ei ole ihan kärjessä lähdössä, mutta taitavalla ajolla voit ohittaa muita kilpailijoita. Autoa ohjataan sauvaohjaimella. Kaasuttaessa ohjainta työnnetään eteen, jarruttaessa taakse ja kääntyessä sivulle.
Ohjelmassa on hyviä yksityiskohtia. Nopeuden noustessa tai laskiessa ohjelma muuttaa automaattisesti vaihdetta ja kääntyessä myös ohjauspyörä kääntyy. Sivupeilistä näet muiden kilpailijoiden ohitusyritykset. Maisemat ovat melko yksitoikkoisia, vain katsomo erottuu omana kokonaisuutenaan. Jos ajat liian kovaa kaarteeseen, kierähtää maisema ylösalaisin.
Auton ohjaustuntuma on melko hyvä, mutta kaasua tulee painettua helposti liikaa, jolloin polttoainetta kuluu hukkaan ja kaarteissa on vaara ajaa ulos. Ulosajosta verotetaan polttoainetta. Pelin ainoana tarkoituksena ei ole vain ohittaa kilpailijoita, yhtä tärkeää on säästää polttoainetta järkevällä ajolla, jotta yleensä pääsisi maaliin asti. Ajossa pärjääminen palkitaan pullolla shampanjaa sekä nimen ikuistamisella top ten -taulukkoon.
Äänenä on käytetty lähinnä moottorin ärinää ja ulosajettaessa särkyvien lasien helinää. Lisäksi menestyneet palkitaan palkintofanfaarilla.
Le Mans 2 on kohtuullisen hyvä autourheilupeli, jossa on hyvä tuntuma ja hyvin toteutettu autografiikka. Pelin pisteitä laskevat yksitoikkoinen maisemagrafiikka sekä niukat äänet.
1987Electric has moved its good motor racing game, previously released on cassette, onto a credit-card module built with COB technology. Plenty of motor racing games have been released around the world, and most of them are set in Formula 1 races. Le Mans, as the name says, is a computer version of the famous 24-hour sports car race. You don't play the game for 24 hours, though; a shorter stint will do.
The screen shows the view from behind the wheel of a sports car. In front of you are the steering wheel, the gearbox, the instruments and the wing mirrors. Your car isn't quite at the front at the start, but with skilful driving you can overtake the other competitors. The car is controlled with a joystick. To accelerate you push the stick forward, to brake you pull it back, and to turn you push it to the side.
The program has some good details. As your speed rises or falls the program changes gear automatically, and when you turn, the steering wheel turns too. In the wing mirror you can see the other competitors trying to overtake. The scenery is fairly monotonous; only the grandstand stands out as a feature in its own right. If you take a bend too fast, the scenery rolls upside down.
The car's handling feels fairly good, but it's easy to give it too much throttle, which wastes fuel and risks running off the track in the bends. Going off the track costs you fuel. Overtaking the competitors isn't the game's only aim; it's just as important to save fuel by driving sensibly, so that you make it to the finish at all. A good drive is rewarded with a bottle of champagne and your name immortalised in the top ten table.
The sound consists mainly of the snarl of the engine and the tinkle of breaking glass when you go off the track. On top of that, those who do well are rewarded with a victory fanfare.
Le Mans 2 is a reasonably good motor racing game with a good feel and well-executed car graphics. Its score is dragged down by the monotonous scenery graphics and the sparse sound.
