Cyberun

1987Cyberun on Ultimaten peli ja ensimmäinen U.S. Goldin levittämä. Peli on vaihteeksi avaruusaiheinen.

Kuvaruudun rullaus on toteutettu erinomaisesti.

1987Cyberun is an Ultimate game, and the first one distributed by U.S. Gold. The game has a space theme, for a change. Your ship is seen from the side, and it stays put while the screen scrolls around you.

As is typical of Ultimate, the instructions that came with the game are long but tell you next to nothing. So at first, playing is a truly frustrating business of groping around in the dark. The ship is as sluggish as a Commodore 64 disk drive, and the enemies come at you out for blood. Soon, though, you find add-ons for the ship that speed up your movement and give you more firepower. The help is certainly needed, because the planet, and its caves in particular, are really vast. The objects you find attach themselves to your ship, after which you can use them. Picking up some objects, however, requires other objects. After dozens of games even the mission starts to take shape: you have to build a transport ship and collect Cybernite crystals.

The game's graphics may not be among Ultimate's best, but they're still better than in the games of many other makers. The screen scrolling has been done excellently. There's not much you can say about sound on the Spectrum, of course, but at least the title music is pretty good.

Once you've got past the teething troubles, the game grows more and more fascinating, so it's hardly going to sink into oblivion after the first game.
