Asterix and Magic Cauldron

Tuskin maltan odottaa koska idolini Judge Dredd jakaa lakia biteille (on luvassa Melbourne Houselta).

Vuosi on 50 e.Kr. Koko Gallia on valloitettu, paitsi yksi kylä. Valloittamattomuuden salaisuus on yli-inhimilliset voimat antava taikajuoma.

Asterixissa on onnistuneesti tavoitettu sarjakuvanomaisuus. Vaihtelevat taustat näyttävät albumeista repäistyiltä eikä mielikuvitusta tarvitse kiduttaa tunnistaakseen Asterixin ja muut.

Peli sinänsä on joystick-ohjattu seikkailupeli, johon on heitetty sekaan fistimäisiä tappeluita.

1987Who's the little guy who takes a magic potion and heads off to start a fight? Wrong, it's not some Finnish idiot but Asterix, of course, the freedom fighter of Gaul. So he's the latest comic-strip hero to be turned into a game. I can hardly wait for my idol Judge Dredd to start laying down the law in bits (it's on the way from Melbourne House).

The year is 50 BC. All of Gaul has been conquered, except for one village. The secret of its unconquerability is a magic potion that gives superhuman strength. No wonder, then, that there was great fear when Obelix, in a fit of temper, kicked the cauldron from here to eternity. The pieces have to be collected, so Asterix and Obelix are put to work.

Asterix has successfully captured the comic-strip feel. The varied backgrounds look as if they've been torn straight out of the albums, and you don't have to torture your imagination to recognise Asterix and the others.

The game itself is a joystick-controlled adventure game with some Fist-style fights thrown into the mix. Wild boar get hunted and Roman legions get roughed up in between searching for the pieces of the cauldron. One thing starts to grate as the game goes on, and that's the music! By Tetanus, why does every single game have to have music crammed into it, when it could have been replaced with thumping sound effects? Otherwise there's nothing to complain about in the game, apart from the stingy rations of magic potion. A good arcade adventure and Melbourne House's guaranteed quality.

You'd certainly sooner play Asterix than take a punch in the mouth.
