Army Moves

Idea on vanha kunnon tapa-tai-tule-tapetuksi. Alussa kepittelet jeepillä, joka on varustettu kahteen suuntaan ampuvilla raketeilla. Vastaan tulee rekkoja ja helikoptereita, lisäksi sillassa on reikiä joiden yli sinun täytyy hypätä. Peli on alusta asti suhteettoman vaikea, mutta kun keksit hyvän taktiikan, muuttuu peli liiankin helpoksi. Grafiikka on kohtalaista, taustat ovat kivasti piirrettyjä, joskin toistuvia. Alkumusiikki on jopa hyvä, mutta pelin aikana soiva kappale on pitkästyttävä. Onneksi sen saa kytkettyä pois päältä.

Näillä näkymin Oceanin alamäki vain jatkuu, eikä loppua näy. Army Moves on mielikuvitukseton ja kuiva peli.

1987Ocean is churning new games out onto the market at such a rate that it can only lead to one thing. Quality drops, and fast. Ever since Knight Rider the quality of Ocean's games has been on a downward slope, apart from a few gems that Ocean has bought in for big money to distribute.

Army Moves comes as no surprise. It could just as well be Green Beret with the sprites changed. Something new has at least been attempted: the game comes in two parts, and the second part is loaded only once the first has been played through. So do the parts really take up so much memory that they have to be loaded separately? I hardly think so. With a bit more effort on the finishing touches both parts could have been squeezed into memory at once, that's how simple they are.

The idea is good old kill-or-be-killed. At the start you're joysticking your way along in a jeep fitted with rockets that fire in two directions. Coming at you are trucks and helicopters, and on top of that the bridge has holes in it that you have to jump over. The game is disproportionately hard right from the start, but once you work out a good tactic it turns all too easy. The graphics are middling, and the backgrounds are nicely drawn, if repetitive. The title music is actually good, but the tune that plays during the game is tedious. Luckily you can switch it off.

As things stand, Ocean's downhill slide just keeps going, with no end in sight. Army Moves is an unimaginative, dry game.
