Turrican II - Final Fight

Tehtävänä on tuhota koko suuruudenhullun Morgulin armeijakunta.

Lyhyesti, Turrican II on nannaa tulitusfriikeille.

1991 SyksyAs I jump up to a level two metres higher, I have to dodge my way through a sea of bullets while clearing a path through the approaching guard robots, which, after a moment's acquaintance with my laser, vanish into thin air like smoke. A couple of jumps and my nostrils catch the combined aroma of slime and strawberry jelly. I hate heaps of jelly, I muse bitterly, and give it a taste of my flamethrower.

Turrican was good; Turrican II is even better. Turrican combines human intelligence with machine-grade destructive power, since they (it) are a cyborg built for battle, battle for goodness and justice. They always are. Still, Turrikka is no ordinary shoot-'em-up: it adds deductive reasoning and a taste of adventure to the destruction.

This time the arch-enemy is the same as before: Morgul, the Nightmare of Dreams, who has returned full of evil and entrepreneurial spirit. Morgul has decided to bring the System under Turrican's protection to its knees and, while at it, to bring forward the opponent's early retirement. They (it) have generated an entire system of five planets and press-ganged a huge alien slave army into service in order to pull off a universe-conquest. This information clearly cuts no ice with Turrican, because having packed up the kit, this gun-toting chum pops up on the enemy's first planet. The task is to destroy the megalomaniac Morgul's entire army corps.

As before, Turrican sets off on Shanks's pony to gain ground, collecting extra weapons and extra lives along the way. Already in the first part the cyborg was armed to the teeth; now there's even more to be had. The corridor complexes just keep getting bigger, divided into 12 levels on five planets. Between the planets you get to travel by ship, R-Type fashion, using Turrican's arsenal.

The game is simply built, out of ordinary blasting and labyrinth mapping. So what is it that draws you in? The execution that sets the characters and backgrounds moving? The graphics, done in 32 colours with spectacularly smooth animation? The sound, which forces you to turn the amp up just a bit more despite the knocking from downstairs? The insane playability? In short, Turrican II is pure yum-yum for gunfire freaks.
