Armour-Geddon
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1991 Syksy16-bittisten koneiden veteraani Psygnosis kokeilee nyt vuorostaan taitojaan vektorigrafiikan alueella. Armour-Geddon tarjoaa futuristista sodankäyntiä kuudella eri kapistuksella ja heittää sekaan Carrier Command-maista strategiaa. Hirvittävä ydinsota on runnellut kauniin planeetan. Luonnollisesti pinta-asukit hieman ottavat nokkiinsa passiivisuudesta, jolla maan alla asustelevat heitä auttavat.
1991 SyksyPsygnosis, a veteran of the 16-bit machines, is now trying its hand in turn at vector graphics. Armour-Geddon offers futuristic warfare with six different contraptions and throws Carrier Command-style strategy into the mix. A horrific nuclear war has ravaged a beautiful planet. Which planet is not said, but pessimists will surely guess straight away. Those in power saved themselves by going underground into vast tunnel networks, but left their voters to survive on the surface. The planet's decaying ecosystem throws the climate into chaos and makes life on the surface hell. Naturally the surface dwellers get a little miffed at the passivity with which the folks living below ground help them out. So they plan a horrific revenge strike and begin building a Doomsday weapon; a weapon so terrible that once activated it will wipe out all life on the planet. As chief of the "Tunnel Rats", the player's task is to find the five parts needed to build a neutron bomb and use it to destroy the Doomsday weapon. The game thus splits into six missions; the first five involve hunting for the parts, and in the sixth you have to find the death weapon and destroy it.
You have a limited number of scientists and technicians at your disposal. The scientists develop new weapons and the technicians build them from the raw materials you find. When raw materials run short you can scrap existing equipment and recycle it into material for new devices. You can command six craft at once, hopping from one cockpit to another with the function keys. Each craft can be fitted with three devices. Besides the usual missiles, shells and fuel tanks there are, for example, teleport devices, which neatly get you across even long distances without wasting precious fuel.
Once you reach the planet's surface you don't have a moment to admire the scenery; enemy tanks and planes are buzzing around you almost immediately. If your tank starts taking a real hiding from enemy planes, get your own plane into the air to chase the baddies off. Tanks, in turn, can take out the AA guns that give your planes grief. Choosing and using the right craft gives the game that strategic depth that games like this need.
The vector landscape hasn't exactly been spoilt with fine detail. Partly for that reason the screen update is surprisingly fast, and the playability excellent. There are external views of your craft, and for once they're actually useful; the cockpits of the planes and the ground vehicles look alike to the point of confusion. You can't always be sure whether you're in a tank or in a plane sitting on the runway. But this is only a minor flaw in an otherwise near-faultless product. Armour-Geddon is a splendid blend of action and strategy game that ought to charm at least those who fell for Carrier Command.
