Sorcerer
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1991 SyksyLegendat eivät koskaan kuole. Infocom kuoli, mutta elää edelleen Mastertronicin halpa-sarjassa - vuorossa 'Infocom from Mastertronic' sarjan nro 9: Sorcerer.
Taikureiden killan pääjehova Belboz the Necromancer on kadonnut ja hänen epäillään joutuneen pahojen voimien uhriksi. Äkkiäkös maailma on pelastettu.
1991 SyksyLegends never die. Infocom died, but lives on in Mastertronic's budget range - up now is no. 9 in the 'Infocom from Mastertronic' series: Sorcerer.
The top Jehovah of the Guild of Enchanters, Belboz the Necromancer, has disappeared and is suspected of having fallen victim to the forces of evil. The future of the whole kingdom and of the Circle of Enchanters is at stake, and so you must acquire the powers and cunning of a true sorcerer to sort out the mess. 'Piece of cake,' thinks the player, and starts the game only to come face to face with a werewolf. Luckily there's a tree close by, and the player climbs up it. Lo and behold, a huge snake comes slithering down the trunk with a meal in mind. The world will be saved in no time.
Sorcerer belongs to the series 'nerve-shredding Infocom adventures that snot-nosed kids have no business with'. Requirements: preferably born/lived in an English-speaking country, though others will do if they've studied the language intensively for 10-100 years; an imagination more active than average; plenty of paper, pencils and erasers for map-making, plus a thick dictionary just in case. Those less well equipped may try it at their own risk.
The text games Infocom made back in the day are part of gaming legend - today they're out of fashion. Except for those into Olde Values, language geniuses and text adventure fans.
Sure, today's role-playing games are fine things, but the real adventure is born from grinding away at these. Adventuring with nothing but letters for graphics is an Experience, especially when the adventure is this carefully made and has a decent parser that doesn't grumble at every other word. The only ones it loses to in quality are Infocom's last adventure games, Arthur and Shogun.
