Prehistorik
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1991 SyksyDinosaurukset hallitsivat Maata noin 60 miljoonaa vuotta sitten. Ihminen nousi kahdelle jalalle 58 miljoonaa vuotta myöhemmin. Ajalliset mittakaavat on hyvä hallita. Se avartaa maailmankuvaa.
Perusideasta kuultaa kivikautinen pelkistyneisyys. Pikkurillin kokoinen luolaihminen loikkii tasanteelta toiselle nuijien luolista pursuavia olioita lihapadan sattumiksi. Laajempien vesistöjen ylityksissä suoritustapana on ilmapallon kyydissä leijuminen lammesta pomppivia kaloja väistellen. Väliepisodeissa mitellään ruudun korkuisten superolentojen kanssa, esimerkiksi taotaan Tyrannosauruksen varpaat punahehkuisiksi.
Coren arcadetasoiseen Chuck Rockiin verrattuna Prehistorik on tarpeettomien julkaisujen limbotilaan tuomittuja tekeleitä.
1991 SyksyDinosaurs ruled the Earth some 60 million years ago. Man got up onto two legs 58 million years later. And a couple of million years after that, both of them are raising a ruckus in a game that in a couple of months' time nobody will know anything about, nor even want to. It's good to have a grip on time scales. It broadens your view of the world.
The basic idea has a Stone Age simplicity shining through it. A caveman the size of your little finger leaps from ledge to ledge, clubbing the creatures swarming out of the caves into chunks for the stewpot. You can barge into the emptied caves to look for more convenience food and collect nifty bonuses. Larger bodies of water are crossed by floating along aboard a balloon, dodging the fish leaping out of the pond. In the in-between episodes you square off against screen-high super-creatures, for instance hammering a Tyrannosaurus's toes until they glow red.
Compared with Core's arcade-quality Chuck Rock, Prehistorik is one of those efforts condemned to the limbo of unnecessary releases. Bad premonitions are stirred straight away by the amateurishness of the execution: backgrounds that lurch forward a screen at a time, a slow tempo, stiff animations, the monotonous repetition of a few basic ideas from one level to the next, a characterless, forced cuteness and so on. But the surest mark of poor quality is needless frustration. Leaping over chasms and spikes is pixel-precise fiddling, and the margin for working the club or dodging the critters has been squeezed far too tight.
The looks can't be faulted, although you'd wish for more bold anarchy in the spirit of Chuck Rock. As I recall, the game also secreted assorted noises.
Having made it to the second leaping stage to marvel at the dim-witted lack of ideas, what mainly awoke in me was an irresistible urge to flick the power switch.
