Cybercon III
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Joskus saattaa törmätä epämääräiseen möhkylään, jonka käyttöä on veikeä arvuutella. Näperreltävää on lisätty ahtaamalla kypärän vaikealukuisesti muotoiltuun mittaristoon valtava määrä ase-, energia-, kamera-, korjaus- ynnä muita systeemeitä, joita ohjaillaan sekavilla näppäinkomennoilla.
Cybercon III potee pahaa megatautia.
1991 SyksyGame plots always tend to slip into raving about doomsday traumas when nobody can be bothered to get stuck into any intellectual finesse. The name refers to an AI-controlled, autonomous defence system which, following Linkola-style logic, concluded that the surest way to maximise security is to wipe humanity out of existence. So the job is to cram yourself into a gigantic cyborg suit of armour and go and yank the plug out of the wall.
In the vector-graphic complex of over 400 rooms, you mostly pitter-patter from place to place, pummelling a dense population of gliding, sliding and walking heaps of tin. It's good, of course, that the player has something to do besides getting lost in the mazes, but the amount of action doesn't go with the cyborg's wretched handling. The trouble is that the metal lump seems to be wearing roller skates, i.e. the longer you push the stick, the faster you end up spinning on the spot. To top it all, the opposite steering movement that comes naturally from the spinal cord isn't registered until you've returned the stick to the centre in between. Even less frustration than this would have you hurling your movable possessions at the walls.
The environment brings Freescape to mind, but the price of the large number of rooms is a sterile impression. Now and then you might bump into some nondescript lump whose purpose is fun to puzzle over. Extra fiddliness has been added by cramming into the helmet's illegibly designed instrument panel a huge number of weapon, energy, camera, repair and other systems, which are controlled with muddled keyboard commands. From little LEDs and symbols sprinkled here and there you're supposed to be able to read which mode you're in and which systems are on.
Cybercon III is suffering from a bad case of mega-itis. The challenge is massive and the presentation impressive, but the execution collapses into laboured clumsiness. That's just the way it is: with Nethack-type character graphics, this game too could have been made to run smoothly, and there'd have been room for some actual content in there as well.
