Brat
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Idea on aika omalaatuinen.
Brat on ehkä omaperäinen, muttei tarpeeksi hauska.
1991 SyksyIncredible things happen when the cutesy-wutesy little sweetie-pie's beddy-byes time comes round. Nathan, who by day adapts to his role with utter goo-goo babyishness, vanishes under the blanket, lightning flashes, and out crawls Brat, decked out in a leather jacket, Ray Ban shades and a baseball cap, warrior of dreams and lord of all toys.
The player is by no means Brat, unless they were badly brought up, but rather Nathan's guardian angel. The idea is fairly peculiar. The playing area is a maze of ramps viewed from diagonally above, which scrolls steadily downwards while Nathan toddles along at the same pace. The player's job description includes signposting Nathan onto the right path by picking commands from an icon menu and tossing them onto the kid's route.
At the same time you also have to look after the safety of the journey in general, for example by blowing up boulders, building bridges and putting a weight on top of a box so that the jack-in-the-box doesn't pop out and wake the nipper up. Side activities also include scooping up baby bottles, coins and other items that add to the general well-being, provided they happen to lie conveniently along the route.
Brat's idea doesn't work without a limp, since the game is mostly a test of your mouse hand's speed and accuracy. As everyone knows, the mouse is too imprecise and unreliable a controller for this sort of thing: it's always in the wrong spot on the desk and there's never enough room for it. The other weakness is that Brat is a mechanically advancing chore that mainly makes the player tear their hair out. They've gone a bit too far in taking away freedom of action and choice.
Brat may be original, but it's not fun enough. The graphics and sound, for their part, are pretty much neither here nor there, apart from the cute intro and intermission animations, which feature digitised comments burbled by a Real Live Little Rascal. A borderline case that squeezes out a B-minus, so the makers have nothing to be ashamed of.
