Rainbow Islands
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1990 SyksyRainbow Islands on juuri SE Rainbow Islands, eli nippanappa Microprosen hyllyille juuttunut Bubble Bobble II.
Offensiivisena aseistuksena on söpöläisillä mahtava ase: sateenkaari.
Normaalin machotechnobullshitin vastapainona RI on silkkaa mannaa. Rainbow Islands on kunnioitettava jatko Bubble Bobblelle, ja voipa sillä taas vikitellä New Zealand Storyyn jo kyllästynyttä naapurin plikkaa.
1990 SyksyRainbow Islands is THAT Rainbow Islands, in other words the Bubble Bobble II that very nearly stayed stuck on Microprose's shelves. So far only Judy Garland and the pirates have made it over the rainbow; now the way is open to everyone else too.
The heroes of Kupla Kopla have literally undergone evolution: the dinosaurs have morphed into big-eyed human children. That's how games reflect reality in reverse: after all, the big-eyed children of yesteryear have partly turned into small-brained dinosaurs.
The objective is simple: you have to make for the top of the screen before your trousers get wet, since the water is heading skywards too. A whole horde of assorted bugs naturally does its best to close those big eyes in the sleep of death. For offensive armament the cuties have a mighty weapon: the rainbow. With it you can either whack a monster or trap the baddie under it and bounce it to death. And the optical light phenomenon even takes care of temporary transport needs, forming bridges and jumping platforms. There are plenty of assorted bonus fruits and extensions for the rainbow to collect. When moving from one island to the next, you clash with a big but unusually un-nasty-looking end-of-level monster.
The first coin-op conversion by Andrew Braybrok and co. is incredible: the implementation is a straight photocopy of the original arcade machine. The screenshots and the team's Commodore 64 track record give reason to believe that the 8-bit version will also be a worthwhile buy.
As a counterweight to the usual machotechnobullshit, RI is pure manna. Rainbow Islands is a worthy sequel to Bubble Bobble, and with it you can once again sweet-talk the girl next door who's already got bored of New Zealand Story.
