1990 KevätAccoladen The Cycles on yksinkertaisesti Grand Prix Circuit moottoripyörällä.
Tärkeintä tällaisessa pelissä on tietenkin vauhdin tuntu.
PC:n The Cycles on suurinpiirtein sama, mutta luonnollisesti PC häviää audiossa reilusti, kiitos massiivisen yksiäänisen piippinsä. Täytyy kuitenkin antaa tunnustus Accoladelle, PC:n The Cyclesin musiikki kuulostaa välillä kaksi-, jopa kolmiääniseltä.
Kaiken kaikkiaan The Cycles on parempi peli kuin Grand Prix Circuit.
1990 KevätAccolade's The Cycles is simply Grand Prix Circuit on a motorbike. And there's nothing wrong with that, since GPC was a perfectly good game. The game hasn't been cloned quite directly, mind you; one more dimension has been added to it, namely the up-and-down direction. Now the tracks buck wildly under the bike and you can't help trying to peer over the next hill, even though you know full well that stretching your neck won't do any good.
If you've played Grand Prix Circuit before, you know what it's all about. If not, here's the gist of the game in brief: according to their choice, the player is seated behind the handlebars of a 125, 250 or 500 cc motorbike. After choosing the difficulty level and the length of the race, off you go to burn rubber on tracks located around the world. The goal, of course, after hard practice, is the world championship.
The most important thing in a game like this is naturally the sense of speed. The programmers haven't managed to pull this off quite perfectly; instead the game feels a little odd and jerky, and sluggish in general. Even though according to the speedometer the bike is flying down the main straight at 250 km/h, the scenery doesn't whizz past at a matching pace. In the long run, though, this only bothers the most critical of players.
The sound side is just the drone of the engine and the occasional squeal as the tyres spin along the "slippery" asphalt. The game's intro music isn't exactly top-drawer; the Amiga is capable of MUCH better. There's nothing bad to say about the playability, but there's no need to praise it to the skies either.
The Cycles on the PC is roughly the same, but naturally the PC loses heavily on audio, thanks to its massive single-voice beeper. You have to give Accolade credit, though: the music in the PC's The Cycles sounds two-, even three-voiced at times. A bonus is that the game understands the AdLib sound card, and the intro music really rocks along with the card's help. The minus, then, is that the game does NOT use the card during play; instead the motorbike's whine is left to the PC.
All in all, The Cycles is a better game than Grand Prix Circuit. If you liked GPC and both Test Drives, this one is a must-buy too.
