Conflict Europe
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1990 KevätJos muistat C-64:n pelin nimeltä Theatre Europe, tiedätkin jo suurinpiirtein millainen peli Conflict Europe on. Kysymyksessä on siis strategiapeli. Pelaajan tehtävänä on puolustaa Länsi-Eurooppaa idän suuren kansan aggressioita vastaan.
Grafiikka on ihan kivaa, etenkin värianimoitu sienipilvi on tosi nasta.
1990 KevätIf you remember the C-64 game called Theatre Europe, you already know roughly what kind of game Conflict Europe is. So what we have here is a strategy game. The player's task is to defend Western Europe against the aggressions of the great people of the East. At your disposal are troops from several different countries, the air force, special forces (germ warfare and other nasty stuff) and, of course, the last resort: nuclear weapons.
The game is controlled smoothly with the mouse. Moving troops around and handing out supplies to them is child's play, with the mouse whistling along the tabletop. Some functions are annoyingly tucked away behind keys, which really grates, especially when you've settled into an extremely comfy position in your chair and have to lean over to the keyboard.
Launching nuclear weapons demands even greater effort. The player has to leaf through the manual and dig out the launch code, and typing it in gets the big baguettes flying. Do bear in mind, though, that nukes are not a good solution: at least as many missiles come whooshing back from the other side, if not more.
For a strategy game, CE uses the Amiga's capabilities surprisingly well. The graphics are quite nice, and the colour-animated mushroom cloud in particular is really neat. Little digitised animation clips spice up the game nicely and now and then make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The sound, sadly, consists only of digitised weapon clatter and the humming and clicking of computers (???). As I said, the playability is in good shape, although all the functions could have been moved over to the mouse.
Conflict Europe will at least charm fans of war/strategy games; for everyone else it may be a waste of money. An excellent representative of its genre.
