1989 SyksyKun kuningas joi myrkyn, niin eipä auta muu kuin pistää valtakunnan öklöttävin muskelimies noutamaan lääkettä. Tämän eeppisen retken vaiheista kertova kuvaelma on jaettu kuuteen näytökseen: kuoleman käytävä, louhikäärme Olisos, maanalainen joki, Jibba-hirviö, kohtaaminen Zandorin kanssa ja voittoisa paluu.
Ensimmäisessä osassa sankarimme laahaa muskelimassaansa kolmiulotteisesti vierivää käytävää pitkin ja huiskii lepakoita miekallaan. Pariin otteeseen etenemisen pysäyttää isompi hirviö, jonka syöksemät tulipallot pitää palauttaa hallitulla baseball-tekniikalla. Toisessa osassa sankarimme keihästää vaikuttavan näköisen vaaleanpunaisen louhikäärmeen, joka syöksee tulipalloja ja kahmii isoilla kourillaan. Kolmannessa osassa ohjaillaan kanoottia kolmiulotteisesti vierivässä tippukiviluolassa.
1989 SyksyWhen the king has drunk the poison, there's nothing for it but to send the most revolting muscleman in the realm off to fetch the cure. The tableau recounting the stages of this epic trek is divided into six acts: the corridor of death, the dragon Olisos, the underground river, the Jibba monster, the encounter with Zandor and the triumphant return.
In the first part our hero lugs his muscle mass along a corridor that scrolls in three dimensions and swishes at bats with his sword. A couple of times his progress is halted by a bigger monster whose spewed fireballs have to be returned with controlled baseball technique. In the second part our hero spears an impressive-looking pink dragon that spews fireballs and grabs about with its great big mitts. In the third part you steer a canoe through a stalactite cave that scrolls in three dimensions. And so on.
The game's graphics are pretty spectacular, at least when they're not moving. The animation of objects flying towards you has been skimped on, and the overall impression is drearily flat anyway, which makes distances hard to judge. Nor is the scrolling of the corridors particularly convincing: they ought to move towards the viewer, but in fact they seem to scroll outwards. A strange effect.
At first you get the impression that there's plenty of content in the game, but its parts have been implemented with such minimal playability that you could really classify Castle Warrior as an animated comic. Still, I'd sooner read even a bad comic than play a sticky, frustrating non-game like this, which has the makings of a mediocre demo at best.
The five-minute theme tune sets the mood and raises great expectations, but in the end the game's only interesting feature is its Spanish origin.
