1989 KevätPepsin ja U.S. Goldin kädenpaiskaamisen tuloksena on syntynyt vahvasti Michael Pacsoniin nojaava Mad Mix, joka oli virallisena pelinä samaisten yhtiöiden sponsoroimassa Enlannin pelimestaruuskilpailussa. Minkämoisen pelin uusi sukupolvi sitten on valinnut?
The Pepsi Challenge Mad Mix Game on yksinkertaisesti Pacman-klooni, johon on ripustettu runsaasti extraa. Ja oikeastaan aika onnistunein tuloksin, sillä Mad Mixiä pelaa ihan huvikseen. Missään ei tosin kerrota, juoko Pepsimies itse Pepsiä.
1989 KevätThe handshake between Pepsi and U.S. Gold has given birth to Mad Mix, a game that leans heavily on Michael Pacson and was the official game of the England games championship sponsored by those very same companies. So what kind of game has the new generation chosen?
The hero of the game is Pepsi Man, who can save Pepsi Village from the ghosts by eating up all the pellets in the corridors of the mazes. Pepsiman doesn't have to settle for just that, though, because he can also eat various icons. One turns him into an angry Pepsi Man who can destroy ghosts but still carry on gorging on pellets. Another icon turns him into a Pepsi Pig, which can't collect pellets but can at least squash anything that moves. On certain stretches of the level Pepsi Man can even turn into a plane or a tank. Pacman could never do that.
The mazes also contain secret doors and compulsory-exercise icons to liven the game up. There are three different types of bad guys, of whom the ghosts run riot in the greatest numbers. On top of these there are also the Ladybugbear and Mr. Repulsive, whose idiosyncrasies add extra flavour to the game soup.
There's nothing splendid about Mad Mix's Pepsi graphics. They do serve their purpose insofar as there's no trouble telling things apart, except that sometimes pellets of the same shade are hard to pick out from the background. Mad Mix plays smoothly, however, and that's what matters most.
The Pepsi Challenge Mad Mix Game is simply a Pacman clone with plenty of extras hung onto it. And with rather successful results, actually, since you play Mad Mix just for the fun of it. Nowhere, though, does it say whether Pepsi Man himself drinks Pepsi.
