1988Tässä pelissä olet pieni valkoinen pallo, jota hakataan mailalla. Mitä kovempaa, sitä parempi. Kysehän on tietysti golfista, pelistä jossa aikuiset ihmiset ryntäävät rajatulle alueelle esittelemään uusimpia muotivaatteitaan. Erityisen kovatasoinen kamppailu käydään siitä, kenellä on hassuimman näköiset housut ja kengät. Kaikkea tätä yritetään peitellä huitomalla kepakolla palloa maassa oleviin reikiin. Tämä golf tuntuu olevan suosittu peli, koska siitä on viime aikoina väännetty menestyksekkäitä tietokonepelejä aika kasa. Nyt Electronic Artskin yrittää onneaan.
Heti ensisilmäyksellä näkee, ettei World Tour Golf ole mikään Leaderboard IX. Grafiikka on rujompaa, eikä kepinheiluttajaa ole animoitu saati piirretty läheskään yhtä hyvin. Mutta siinä missä grafiikka jää jälkeen, epäonnistuu pelattavuuskin. Voimamittari on vaikeaselkoisempi ja firenappulaa tarvitsee lyödä neljä kertaa ennenkuin pikkumies suostuu huitaisemaan. Hässäkän jälkeen todennäköisin lopputulos on se, että pallo tekee kauniin kahden metrin kaarron ja ruutuun ilmestyy pikkugolffarin kipakat kiroukset. WTG on nähkääs todella vaikea.
WTG ei häikäise äänipuolellakaan, mutta kaikkea ei suinkaan ole hukattu. Pelistä löytyy nimittäin kasoittain menuja ja vaihtoehtoja, onpa kaiken kukkuraksi isketty vielä mahdollisuus suunnitella omia ratoja. Lähes kaikkeen voi vaikuttaa ja WTG onkin loppujen lopuksi paljon monipuolisempi kuin Leaderboard. Jos unohtaa karun ulkomuodon, löytää todella pikkutarkan ja mielenkiintoisen golfsimulaation. Simuloinnissa on menty niin pitkälle, että tämän pelaaminen on varmasti yhtä vaikeaa kuin oikeankin golfin. Jos olet golffanaatikko, mutta olet kyllästynyt Leaderboardiin, kokeile World Tour Golfia.
1988In this game you are a small white ball that gets whacked with a club. The harder, the better. It's golf, of course - the game where grown adults rush onto a marked-off area to show off their latest fashion outfits. An especially fierce contest is waged over who has the silliest-looking trousers and shoes. They try to disguise all this by swatting at a ball with a stick, aiming for holes in the ground. This golf thing seems to be a popular game, since quite a heap of successful computer games have been cranked out of it lately. Now Electronic Arts is trying its luck too.
At the very first glance you can see that World Tour Golf is no Leaderboard IX. The graphics are cruder, and the stick-waggler hasn't been animated, let alone drawn, anywhere near as well. But where the graphics fall behind, the playability fails as well. The power meter is harder to make sense of, and you have to hit the fire button four times before the little man deigns to take a swipe. After all that palaver, the most likely outcome is that the ball makes a lovely two-metre arc and the little golfer's snappy swearing appears on the screen. WTG is really difficult, you see.
WTG doesn't dazzle on the sound front either, but all is by no means lost. The thing is, the game has menus and options by the heap, and to top it all they've even thrown in the option to design your own courses. You can influence almost everything, and in the end WTG is actually far more versatile than Leaderboard. If you can overlook its spartan looks, you'll find a really meticulous and interesting golf simulation. The simulation has been taken so far that playing this is surely every bit as hard as real golf. If you're a golf fanatic but you're fed up with Leaderboard, give World Tour Golf a try.
