Tetris

1988Historiallinen hetki: ensimmäinen tietokonepeli Rajan takaa. Mikä peli? Ghostbusters-Busters? Parapsykologia saa kuitenkin keliä, sillä kysymyksessä on neuvostolisäys pelimaailmaan.

Pelissä on tarkoitus muodostaa koko kentän ylittäviä suoria rivejä sijoittamalla paloja sopiviin kohtiin.

Isompaa miinusta tulee hinnasta. Tetris on loppujen lopuksi varsin yksinkertainen peli, joten Mirrorsoft olisi hyvinkin voinut julkaista sen puoleen hintaan. Vot, hyvin on veli venäläinen pelin tehnyt. Nyt vain odottamaan Mig-29 Strike Eaglea Mikroprosenovskilta.

1988A historic moment: the first computer game from the Other Side. Which game? Ghostbusters-Busters? Parapsychology can take a hike, though, because what we have here is a Soviet addition to the gaming world.

Actually, only the idea of Tetris has been imported from the East; all the versions of the game are Western handiwork. But what is this wonder game Tetris actually like, then?

Pieces of different shapes drop one at a time from the top of a small playing area, and you can shift them sideways with the joystick. Fire gets the piece spinning around. The aim of the game is to form straight rows running across the whole playing area by placing the pieces in suitable spots. When you manage to create such a row, it is removed and the other rows drop down. Handy, considering that the game ends as soon as the rows reach the top row.

Read about on paper, the game is about as gripping as the phone book. For some incomprehensible reason, though, at its best it has you twisting away at it for hours on end. It is impossible to play Tetris for 'just one quick game'.

The conversions get a small minus for their incompatible scoring and for the needless gimmickry in the ST and Amiga versions. A bigger minus comes from the price. Tetris is, when all's said and done, a pretty simple game, so Mirrorsoft could very well have released it at half the price. Vot, brother Russian has made a fine game. Now all that's left is to wait for Mig-29 Strike Eagle from Mikroprosenovski.
