Star Wars
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Vaan millainen on loistopeleistään Friday The 13th ja A View To A Kill tunnetun Domarkin versio?
Miljardeja markkoja Star Wars -automaattiin syöttäneenä odotankin kuumeisella kiihkolla Star Warsin ST-versiota. Aamen.
1988At long last, after all these years, patient waiting is rewarded and the greatest arcade game of all time comes to home computers.
Just kidding - there have already been no fewer than two official versions of Star Wars and one unofficial one. I haven't seen the Parker Brothers' game, Atari's own official version thank the Lord never made it to the shops, and Realtime's 3D Starstrike was good. But what is the version from Domark, famed for such brilliant games as Friday The 13th and A View To A Kill, like?
To build up the suspense I won't give the answer straight away, but will first run through the idea of the game for anyone unfamiliar with Star Wars: in this beautiful vector-graphics game you first battle the Empire's TIE fighters in space, then fly along the surface of the Death Star shooting laser towers, and finally run the gauntlet down a narrow, obstacle-packed trench, at the end of which you let fly with your photon torpedoes into the exhaust port. The result of all this effort is that the Death Star explodes. This loop is repeated for as long as your shields hold out. Simple but spellbinding action.
The moment of truth: I really do have to forgive Domark its old sins. The game resembles the original as closely as the C-64's resources allow. Vector graphics games are a bit of a problem for the C-64 because of its slow processor, but Domark's programmers have done rather nicely, since even though it doesn't reach the smoothness of the original, the speed is still tolerable. The sound effects are fairly standard, and a well-arranged Star Wars theme plays in the background. A very well made conversion from Domark, although a joystick doesn't really suit this type of game.
Having fed billions of marks into the Star Wars machine, I'm awaiting the ST version of Star Wars with feverish zeal. According to eyewitnesses it's practically identical to the arcade version, right down to the speech, and the mouse is the best alternative after the original SW controller. Until then, may the Force be with me, and also with you. Amen.
