Roadwars
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1988Seitsemännentoista miljoonan kerran maailmankaikkeudessa vallitsee taasen rauhan ja hyvinvoinnin aikakausi. Tietokoneet hoitavat kaikki tylsät hommat, kuten pelien testaamisen, ja ihmiset keskittyvät matkustelemiseen ja Marvelin sarjakuvien lukemiseen.
Vaan voi! Viimeisen sodan näyttämöä, kuollutta Armageddonin planeettaa kiertäviä kuita yhdistäviä avaruusteitä valvova tietokone on mennyt sekaisin.
Nopeatempoisten hyvin toteutettujen toimintapelien ystävälle Roadwars on todella pakko-ostos.
1988For the seventeen millionth time, an era of peace and prosperity once again reigns in the universe. Computers take care of all the boring jobs, such as testing games, and people concentrate on travelling and reading Marvel comics.
But alas! The computer overseeing the space roads that link the moons orbiting the dead planet Armageddon, the scene of the last war, has gone haywire. So there's nothing for it but to take the old combat vehicles - the Battlespheres - out of their storage grease and send them to clean up the space roads. Only somebody forgot to mention that, unlike in the comics, these creepy-crawlies shoot back!
As is the fashion these days, Roadwars can be played either alone or with a friend. There are always two battle spheres on the track, though, with the computer controlling one of them when needed. The game can be played either as a duel or as a fighting pair, in which case you're not quite so likely to end up running your buddy off the edge of the road.
What's puzzling about Roadwars is that although the action is really fast and the game characters are well animated, the tracks don't change enough. Even just varying the colours more would make pushing on to the next level more worthwhile. As it is, nothing happens except that the baddies get an order of magnitude crankier.
For fans of fast-paced, well-made action games Roadwars is a real must-buy. It can even be recommended to those more inclined towards Zen Buddhism, as a snack between meditation sessions.
