Hänestä tuli Pac-Man, tietokonepelien megatähti ja henkilöitymä.
Avainsana Pac-Landissa on yksinkertaisuus. Peliformaatti on tosi klassinen eli Mr Pac etenee vasemmalta oikealle, hyppelee, väistelee kummituksia ja yrittää ehtiä kentän loppuun ennen energian hupenemista.
1988Once upon a time there was a yellow ball who had a problem. He had sunk so low that he was seeing ghosts and had to keep popping pills on constant repeat. He became Pac-Man, megastar and living embodiment of computer games.
Mr Pac is now back. During his holiday he has grown legs, arms and a nose, and invested in a handsome hat. He has even managed to kick the pills. Pac gets into the game when one day he meets a poor lost fairy and promises to take the little thing back to Fairyland. But Alas and Alack! The ghosts Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde, true to their old ways, are out to end Pac's days. Progress is barging in even on pac-elimination, since the ghost brothers have cars and aeroplanes at their disposal.
The keyword in Pac-Land is simplicity. The game format is truly classic, i.e. Mr Pac makes his way from left to right, hops about, dodges ghosts and tries to reach the end of the level before his energy runs out.
Reminders of Pacman are the bonus cherries and the power pills. Eating a power pill lets you wipe out the ghost brigade, just like in the good old maze game.
The Pac-graphics are simple but clear, and they fit the game like a glove. The Pac-difficulty rises at just the right rate, which of course gets you raring for more Pac-games.
Pac-Land is a successful arcade conversion that fascinates precisely through its apparent simplicity. Nice to see that Quicksilva can make playable games too. Dabba dabba Pacmaaan!
