Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1988Älykkäimmät ja fiksuimmat arvasivat tietysti heti, että Clever & Smart ovat Suomessa tuttuja nimellä Älli ja Tälli. Espanjalaisen Ibanezin sankarit ovat kai suhteellisen suosittujakin, sillä albumeita näyttää tippuvan aina silloin tällöin.
Ja saksalaiset ovat kyhänneet pelin tästä toisten mielestä jopa hauskasta parivaljakosta. Heidän on löydettävä Dr. Bacterius. Se juonesta.
Clever & Smart on tosi kansainvälinen peli. Pelikieleksi voi valita joko saksan, englannin tai ranskan. Ohjeet ovat sekä ruotsiksi että norjaksi ja kaiken kruununa peli on jopa ohjeiden kanssa täyttä hepreaa. Maahantuojat ovat lyöneet mukaan suomenkieliset ohjeet, jotka valitettavasti ovat yhtä virheelliset kuin alkuperäisetkin.
Pelin kulku on vähintäänkin epäselvä. Ä&T voivat harhailla pitkin kaupunkia, ostaa valepukuja, löytää esineitä ja tehdä edellämainituilla kaikkea enemmän tai vähemmän vänkää. Kun Ällitälli siirtyy viemäriverkostoon, kasvavat spritet vielä isommiksi ja tunnistettavimmiksi. Kuolema tulee useista syistä, mutta en todellakaan aina ollut selvillä miksi viikate heilahti.
Grafiikka on kyllä kunnossa. Jopa kuusnelkussa parivaljakon tunnistaa helposti. Äänet ovat niitä tavanomaisia ja onneksi mikään taustakappale ei helise koko aikaa.
Clever & Smart tuntuu olevan ihan asiallinen ja jopa monipuolinen arcadeadventure, joka pelityypin ystävien kannattaa koepelata. Varsinkin jos pitää epäselvistä peleistä.
1988The cleverest and smartest among you will of course have guessed straight away that Clever & Smart are known in Finland as Älli ja Tälli. The Spaniard Ibanez's heroes are presumably fairly popular too, since albums seem to trickle out every now and then.
And the Germans have cobbled together a game about this duo, whom some people even find funny. They have to find Dr. Bacterius. So much for the plot.
Clever & Smart is a truly international game. You can choose German, English or French as the game language. The instructions are in both Swedish and Norwegian, and to crown it all, even with the instructions the game is all Greek. The importers have thrown in Finnish instructions, which unfortunately are just as full of errors as the originals.
The way the game works is baffling, to say the least. Ä&T can wander around the town, buy disguises, find objects and do all sorts of more or less cool things with the aforementioned. When Ällitälli moves into the sewer network, the sprites grow even bigger and more recognisable. Death comes from a number of causes, but I really wasn't always clear on why the scythe swung.
The graphics are fine, I'll give it that. Even on the C-64 the duo is easy to recognise. The sounds are the usual sort, and luckily there's no background tune jangling away the whole time.
Clever & Smart seems to be a perfectly decent and even varied arcade adventure that fans of the genre should give a test play. Especially if you like baffling games.
