Wreck, The

1987Pelissä olet sukeltaja, joka kapakassa kuulee vanhalta merimieheltä kultalastissa olevasta laivasta, joka on uponnut lähivesille. Lähdet etsimään aarretta aluksesta. Aluksen sisällä on seinille kirjoitettu koodeja, joilla kassakaappi aukeaa.

Uponnut alus on oikea sokkelo. Siellä ui monen värisiä kaloja, joita voit harppunoida ja siten merkitä kulkemasi reitin. Sinulla on vedenpitävä muistilehtiö, johon voit vahakynällä merkitä mihin jokainen kala on pudonnut. Välillä sinun on käytävä sisääntuloaukossa hakemassa uusia happipulloja tyhjentyneiden tilalle.

Aluksessa liikkumista vaikeuttavat isot meduusat, jotka vievät sinut kohdatessaan sattumanvaraiseen paikkaan aluksella. Aluksessa on kolme kassakaappia, joissa olevat kultaharkot on kuljetettava sisääntuloaukkoon. Kolmannessa kassakaapissa on myös muna, josta kuoriutuvan olion kuvauksella voit saada pelin ratkaisijalle luvatun kultaharkon itsellesi.

Pelissä on käytetty lähinnä merkkigrafiikan tasoisia ratkaisuja, joten grafiikka on todella yksinkertaista.

Varsin vaatimatonta kaikenkaikkiaan.

The Wreck on varsin yksitoikkoisen sokkelopeli, jonka kiinnostavuus riippuu vain siitä, haluaako kuluttaa monta tylsää tuntia kultaharkon saamisen toivossa. Tuntuu siltä, että suurin osa pelin suunnitteluun käytetystä ajasta on kulunut markkinoinnin, ei pelin mielekkyyden suunnitteluun.

1987In the game you are a diver who, in a tavern, hears from an old sailor about a ship carrying a cargo of gold that has sunk in nearby waters. You set off to search the wreck for the treasure. Inside the ship, codes that open the safe have been written on the walls.

The sunken ship is a real maze. Fish of many colours swim about in it, and you can harpoon them and so mark the route you have taken. You have a waterproof notepad on which you can use a wax crayon to note where each fish has fallen. Every now and then you have to go back to the entrance to pick up fresh oxygen tanks to replace the empty ones.

Getting around the ship is made harder by big jellyfish which, when you run into them, carry you off to a random spot on the ship. There are three safes on board, and the gold bars in them must be carried to the entrance. The third safe also holds an egg, and by describing the creature that hatches from it you can win for yourself the gold bar promised to whoever solves the game.

The game mostly makes do with solutions on the level of character graphics, so the graphics are really simple. Colours have not been squandered, so the game looks modest. The screen shows a "three-dimensional" view into the maze plus a few bits of information such as the score and the amount of oxygen left.

For sound, the game has the whoosh of oxygen going in and out, plus a short signature racket when you collide with a jellyfish. Pretty modest all in all.

The Wreck is a rather monotonous maze game whose interest depends solely on whether you want to spend many dull hours in the hope of getting a gold bar. It feels as though most of the time spent designing the game went into planning the marketing, not into making the game worthwhile.
