Tiger Mission

1987Tämä on varmasti sadas vastaavanlainen tuhoamispeli, jonka olen silmieni eteen jostain kaapinut. Kansi uhoaa tulta, tuhoa, kauhistusta, palavia tukialuksia ja yksinäisen helikopterin vastassaan koko vihollisen asevoimat. Tai jotain sinnepäin. Itse asiassa Tiger Mission on tanskalaisen ohjelmatalon toinen yritelmä saavuttaa mainetta ja kunniaa muuallakin kuin yhtiön ohjelmoijien jutuissa. Kele Linen ensimmäinen kyhäelmä on The Vikings, joka muistuttaa hämmentävästi Ramboa.

Tiger Missionin idea on tuttu, yksinkertainen ja moneen kertaan testattu. Sinut asetetaan maailman kehittyneimmän taisteluhelikopterin ohjaimiin ja tehtäväksesi annetaan pistää kaikki vastaantuleva pilkkeeksi, jotta lopulta saavuttaisit vihollisen senhetkisen päämajan. Kieltäytyminen on pomoillesi tuntematon käsite.

1987This is surely the hundredth destruction game of its kind that I've scraped up from somewhere and set before my eyes. The cover blusters about fire, destruction, horror, burning carriers and a lone helicopter up against the enemy's entire armed forces. Or something along those lines. Tiger Mission is in fact the Danish software house's second attempt at winning fame and glory somewhere other than in its own programmers' chatter. Kele Line's first concoction is The Vikings, which bears a bewildering resemblance to Rambo.

The idea of Tiger Mission is familiar, simple and tested many times over. You are put at the controls of the world's most advanced combat helicopter and given the task of turning everything that comes your way into matchwood, so that you finally reach the enemy's headquarters of the moment. Refusal is a concept unknown to your bosses. The game is put together the same way as Xevious and 1942. Tiger Mission is just a lot harder. Your helicopter steers lazily and slowly, unlike your opponents and their bullets. The game's difficulty gets frustrating really fast.

The graphics are satisfactory, with their small details, the music and sound effects are good, and the instructions are, wonder of wonders, even in Finnish. The back-cover blurbs compete to praise the game's magnificence in many languages, even claiming that the game is addictive. For my part, all I found the game caused was an irresistible urge to ram my Commodore down the programmer's throat. Why doesn't anyone make original games any more?
