Thanatos
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987At last the dragons, those proud, fire-breathing, majestic beasts, get to be the hero! Thanatos the Destroyer, an old and wise dragon, wants to destroy his enemies in the underworld. To help him he needs the beautiful sorceress Eros, the Book of Spells and the magic cauldron. So onward flies Thanatos towards the fulfilment of his destiny, with a beautiful woman riding on his back. The dragon is big and well animated, and the landscape scrolls like a real landscape. Thanatos can fly, walk and swim. And when some foolish Saint Georges turn up, Thanatos can drop rocks on these pipsqueaks' heads, snatch them up in his paws and teach them to fly or, less prosaically, burn them to ashes and then burn the ashes to ashes too.
What a guy!
But even a dragon's life isn't all dancing on the ruins of villages. He's up against not only spear-, arrow- and rock-men but also mythical beasts from humanity's past. Rockslides come crashing down on his head, and to top it all you have to keep an eye on Eros so the lady doesn't tumble off his neck.
With all this going on, the poor old dragon's heart gets overstrained. And as we all know, stress kills. So even Thanatos has to take it easy and rest after a hard fight, so that his heart doesn't give out.
So Thanatos is an excellent game, but there's one small problem: only the Spectrum Thanatos is any good. Thanatos-64 feels obviously unfinished, and it's missing many of the things the Spectrum version is packed with. Not to mention that Thanatos isn't made with sprites, so he badly interferes with the background graphics.
Thanatos is without question Durell's best game: original, fascinating and full of a magical atmosphere. And games like that are rarer these days than dragons ever were.
