Saracen
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Saracen on sangen ainutlaatuinen peli. Sillä lailla ainutlaatuinen, että pelin ladattuaan huomaa olevansa vuodessa 1983. Pelin äänet, grafiikka ja pelattavuus ovat kaikki reilusti vanhentuneita, eivätkä enää nykyään tee minkäänlaista vaikutusta karskeihin kaikenkokeneisiin ammattilaisiin.
Alkuruudussa lukee pelin olevan vuodelta 1986, mutta kaikki muu väittää aivan muuta. Paitsi idea. Saracen on pohjimmiltaan Gauntlet-matkinta, johon on lisätty kaikenlaista pientä kuin suojaväriksi päälle. Gauntletiin verrattuna Saracen on täysin avuton kopio.
Varsinainen juoni heittää pelaajan vieläkin pidemmälle kuin vuoteen 1983,nimittäin Pyhiin Ristiretkiin. Niiden aikana nuoret urheat soturit matkasivat pyhään maahan taistelemaan valloittajia vastaan.
Datasoft on kunnostautunut tekemällä pari kohtalaista roolipeliä, mutta Saracenissa he iskivät kyllä kirveensä kiveen. En suosittele kenellekään.
1987Saracen is a pretty unique game. Unique in the sense that once you've loaded it, you find yourself in the year 1983. The game's sound, graphics and playability are all badly dated, and nowadays make no impression whatsoever on gruff, seen-it-all professionals.
The title screen says the game is from 1986, but everything else says something quite different. Except the idea. Saracen is at heart a Gauntlet imitation, with all sorts of little extras slapped on top as camouflage. Next to Gauntlet, Saracen is a completely hopeless copy.
The actual plot throws the player back even further than 1983, namely to the Holy Crusades. During them, brave young warriors travelled to the Holy Land to fight the conquerors. You set off on the journey armed with nothing but a bow, with a Saracen chieftain as your target. The graphics are really blocky, the sprites are little more than symbols and the backgrounds are a simple brick pattern. The title music is pathetic, and the sound effects don't even bear talking about.
Datasoft has distinguished itself with a couple of passable role-playing games, but with Saracen they really fell flat on their faces. I don't recommend it to anyone.
