Rambo
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Pelaajan on eläydyttävä Rambon asemaan tämän suorittaessa tehtäväänsä. Elokuvassa on Rambolle annettu selvä tehtävä. Hänen on etsittävä Vietnamin sodan aikaisia amerikkalaisia sotavankeja Vietnamin viidakosta.
Rambo ottaa vangin mukaansa. Seuraa pakomatka, jonka vietnamilaiset sotilaat kuitenkin pysäyttävät.
Pelaajan on pelastauduttava helikopterilla ystävien seuraan.
Pelin pelaamisen kannalta onkin elokuvan katsominen lähes pakollista, jollei joltakin kaverilta kuule tarkempia tietoja pelin kulusta. Peli nimittäin seuraa elokuvan aihetta paljon paremmin kuin esimerkiksi Ghostbusters ja A View to A Kill.
1987The player has to step into Rambo's shoes as he carries out his mission. In the film Rambo is given a clear mission. He has to search the Vietnamese jungle for American prisoners of war from the Vietnam War. If any prisoners are found, they must be photographed.
The commanding officer's order to stay out of any fight with the enemy is forgotten when, on reaching the prison camp, Rambo finds a tortured American soldier. Rambo takes the prisoner with him. An escape follows, which the Vietnamese soldiers nevertheless put a stop to. In the end, after many twists and turns, Rambo still manages to rescue all the American prisoners and make it back to his base.
The player has to be capable of the same as Rambo. The player is given many different aids for carrying out the mission. At the start of the game you have a knife and a hunting bow, with both normal and explosive arrows for it. In addition, a machine gun and hand grenades can be found out in the terrain, and a rocket launcher in the helicopter.
The course of the game is clearer than in the film; it is divided into parts. In the first part you have to get into the prison camp, rescue the tortured prisoner from the torture stake and get to the helicopter. The helicopter is north of the prison camp. The helicopter has to be flown back to the prison camp and the rest of the prisoners taken aboard.
This is followed by the hardest stage of the game. The player has to escape by helicopter to the safety of friends. The escape is opposed by the pride of the Soviet attack helicopters, the Mil Mi-24, known for short as the "Hind". This gunship carries four 32-rocket pods under its stub wings, plus four heat-seeking missiles. With good flying skills and some luck the player gets past this obstacle too and escapes to friends in Thailand. At this point you get a hefty bonus and have to start all over again on a slightly harder level.
The game as such isn't just about shooting, since some tactics are needed too. If you use noisy weapons, you can be sure the place will be swarming with enemies like ants. That's why it pays to use only the knife at first. When it's time for some serious action (that is, something has to be destroyed), the best weapon is the explosive-tipped arrows. In the whole game there's no sensible use to be found for the machine gun or the ordinary arrows.
Even though this game is based almost entirely on killing, I think it is very good. Perhaps the reason is the film's "certain something", which is probably the reason almost everyone buys the game. As far as playing the game goes, seeing the film is practically compulsory, unless you can get more detailed information about how the game goes from some friend. The thing is, the game follows the film's story far more closely than, for example, Ghostbusters and A View to A Kill do.
