Raid on Bungeling Bay

1987Bungelingin valtio elättelee taas suuria suunnitelmia. Valmisteilla oleva sotalaiva takaa tulivoiman naapurivaltioiden saattamiseksi koron alle.

Tukialuksen kunnosta kannattaa huolehtia.

Yhteysaluksia, IT-pattereita, tutka-asemia... Näillä on vaikutusta peliinkin.

Koko homma on kuvattu ylhäältä päin.

Jummi.

Iästään huolimatta Raid On Bungeling Bay on edelleen oiva peli, joka on tarpeeksi monimutkainen taatakseen pitkän peli-iän.

1987The state of Bungeling is nursing grand plans again. The warship under construction guarantees it the firepower to bring the neighbouring countries under its heel. Unless somebody happened to send an aircraft carrier and a handful of choppers to destroy the factory area...

So the mission is to destroy five factories and, in between, bomb the nearly finished warship off to Ship Heaven. The attack chopper can carry 9 bombs, and it takes 8-18 bombs to destroy one factory. When the first factory meets its end, the Bungeling war machine wakes up. Fighters glue themselves to the chopper's tail, bombers get acquainted with the carrier, the AA gunners are issued with spectacles and the heat-seeking missiles are dug out of the attic.

It pays to look after the carrier. If it sinks, your supply of choppers comes to an abrupt end and repairing damage is no longer possible.

Besides the factories, there's plenty of other stuff to shoot at too. Supply boats, AA batteries, radar stations... These have an effect on the game as well. Destroying the boats delays the building of the warship and the repair of the factories, destroying the radars leaves the fighters lost, and so on.

The whole thing is viewed from above. The screen, which looks like a map, scrolls freely in every direction. The game doesn't just give your joystick a workout, it also calls for a slight strategic touch.

When and if the very last factory is lying in millimetre-sized lumps, the player gets their reward. A black limo drives the hero pilot through a cheering crowd, and the feat makes the front page of the paper. Gosh.

Despite its age, Raid On Bungeling Bay is still an excellent game, complex enough to guarantee a long playing life.
