Psi 5:ssä tarkoituksena on perinteiseen tapaan luotsata avaruusalus avaruusrosmoja kuhisevan avaruuden alueen läpi.

Ohjelman perusidea on vallan mainio. Eri miehistönjäsenillä on erilaiset luonteet, ja heidän toimintansa stressitilanteissa vaihtelee suuresti. Samaten ilotikkua hyödyntävä käskyjenantotapa on kehitelty varsin mukavaksi.

1987Games that combine action and logic seem to be catching on fast. Programmers just don't have much experience with programs of this kind yet, which means the final fine-tuning of the games' ideas is often a little off.

In Psi 5 the aim, in the traditional way, is to pilot a spaceship through a region of space swarming with space bandits. However, whereas the player would normally handle the steering and the pummelling of enemies personally, here they delegate the various tasks to different crew members. So instead of a crosshair sight, the screen shows a picture of a communications terminal, on which you can see views of nearby space and of whichever crew member is currently being given orders. There is also room on the screen for reports coming in from the various departments.

The basic idea of the program is splendid. The different crew members have different personalities, and the way they act under stress varies a great deal. Likewise, the joystick-driven way of giving orders has been worked out quite nicely.

The only problem is that where a program like this ought to work mainly on the little grey cells, the game has been made rather fast-paced, and the action boils down to repeating sequences of commands learned by heart. The player is left no time at all to ponder, for example, how best to break off a fight against eight enemies in a crippled ship.
