1987Lode Runner on jo vanhempaa ikäluokkaa, mutta edelleen aivan kärkisijoilla omassa lajissaan. Peli on monikenttäinen kiipeily-keräilyjuttu, jossa säälimättömät takaa-ajajat koettavat napata miehesi ennenkuin saat tehtäväsi täytettyä.
1987Lode Runner is getting on a bit already, but it is still right at the top of its own genre. The game is a multi-level climbing-and-collecting affair in which merciless pursuers try to nab your man before you've managed to complete your task.
Each level is made up of various platforms, often built from bricks. The platforms are linked by ladders and ropes, which let you get around nippily. The hero can also use his laser drill to make holes in the brick floors. He can drop down through these holes himself, or else lure the pursuing robots into them. A hole fills itself in again after a moment, and if some unfortunate is in it at the time, he loses his life. This only slows the pursuers down, though, because as soon as one dies a new one comes charging onto the level.
Your own hero's job is to collect the little boxes that look like Japanese flags and then scurry up the escape ladders that appear afterwards to reach the next level.
Lode Runner's graphics are clear and simple; there's no pointless decoration anywhere in the levels. Controlling your own little man is very easy, and you grasp the idea of the game in a moment. What you won't learn right away, on the other hand, is the best way to tackle each level, but after a little experimenting the first couple of screens are easy enough to clear.
A brilliant plus in the game is the option to make and save your own levels. Building a suitably difficult level goes smoothly with 15 different keys, and making corrections is easy. For any player who can be bothered to exert their brain even slightly, L.R. is an excellent game.
