Living Daylights

1987Hiphei, kammottava A View To Kill on saanut jatkoa uuteen Averell Dalton-Bondiin perustuvassa Living Daylightsissa. Saako maailmanhistorian huonoimpiin kuuluva huijaus vahvan kilpailijan?

Tällä kertaa on nähty vaivaa.

Jokainen taso vaatii tietyn erikoisaseen.

Ostakoon ken tahtoo, ilmankin tulee toimeen.

1987Whoopee, the ghastly A View To Kill has got a sequel in Living Daylights, based on the new Averell Dalton Bond. Is one of the worst rip-offs in the history of the world about to get a serious rival?

Domark really does believe in its product: the game is being converted not only to every conceivable 8-bit machine but also to the Amiga, and on top of that Living Daylights is being turned into a coin-op.

The financial risk isn't great, of course: Living Sunbeam would sell even if it were View To Kill in a new box. Fortunately, that isn't the case.

This time somebody has actually gone to some trouble. The graphics are good, and a passable version of the film's theme jingles away at the start of the game. Instead of the daft a-ha song, though, they could perfectly well have used the good olde Bond theme.

The game itself is quite simple: Bond runs from right to left through six levels that are based on the film but fairly similar to one another, and meets a variety of enemies. Between levels 007 can choose his weaponry from Q's extensive stores.

Each level calls for a particular special weapon. Choosing the wrong one makes getting through harder, but not impossible. When he shoots, Bond stops and a cursor shows where the lead is going to fly. James-boy's arm follows the direction of the gun.

Being a nimble fellow, 007 can also jump and duck. Nor is a single bullet enough to write Bond's epitaph. Living Daylights could be a game based on any film at all; nothing characteristic of a Bond movie has been captured in it.

Living Daylights is no flop, but it's no milestone in the history of computer games either. It's just a reasonably smooth shoot-'em-up that is sure to find its audience, especially at the younger end of the gaming public. Let him buy it who will; you'll manage fine without it, too.
