Leather Goddesses Of Phobos
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Kuolaan kuin Pavlovin koirat. Pulssini on yli 200 ja verenpaineeni uhkaa nousta korkeammalle kuin... Jaa mitäkö teen, pelaan tietenkin Infocomin uusinta tekstiseikkailua.
Nahkajumalattaret on ensimmäinen peli, joka saa minut kiihtymään jo pelkällä esipuheellaan: "Tämän pelin seksipainotteiset osat eivät välttämättä sovi lapsille."
Heitin puna-siniset silmälasit otsalleni ja luin kolmiulotteisen sarjakuvakertomuksen Lane Mastodonista ja nahkajumalattarista. Kertomuksen vaikutusta lisätäkseni raaputtelin vapisevin käsin muutaman hajukuplan rikki ja nuuhkin vapautuvia höyryjä. Tästä tilanteesta minut sitten yllätettiin: mies istuu punasiniset silmälasit otsallaan tietokoneensa äärellä ja tunkee huohottaen pahvinpalasia nenäänsä. Noloa! Tosi inhottavaa. Tulla nyt keskeyttämään.
Ystäväni painostuksesta kiskon paperit pois sieraimistani ja aloitan varsinaisen pelin. Valitsen kolmesta piristävän uudenlaisesta vaikeusasteesta tietenkin viimeisen (kesy, vihjaileva, törkeä). Seuraavat päivät kuluvatkin tiukasti näppäimistön ääressä.
Sivuseikkana voin kertoa pelin olevan erinomainen.
1987I'm drooling like Pavlov's dogs. My pulse is over 200 and my blood pressure is threatening to climb higher than... Oh, what am I doing? Playing Infocom's latest text adventure, of course.
Leather Goddesses is the first game that gets me all worked up with its foreword alone: "The sexually oriented parts of this game may not be suitable for children."
I flung the red-and-blue glasses onto my forehead and read the three-dimensional comic story about Lane Mastodon and the leather goddesses. To heighten the effect of the story, I scratched open a few scent bubbles with trembling hands and sniffed the fumes they released. And that's the situation I was caught in: a man sitting at his computer with red-and-blue glasses on his forehead, panting as he stuffs bits of cardboard up his nose. How embarrassing! Really horrid. Fancy coming in and interrupting like that.
At my friend's insistence I yank the bits of paper out of my nostrils and start the game proper. Of the three refreshingly novel difficulty levels I naturally pick the last one (tame, suggestive, lewd). The days that follow are spent firmly glued to the keyboard.
As a side note, I can tell you the game is excellent. A large vocabulary (it understands "interesting" words), a brilliant parser and a large number of different rooms make the program a fine addition to Infocom's adventure series. The best things about Leather Goddesses are the variety and pace of the action and the humorous descriptions. The glasses, the 3-D comic and the scratch-and-sniff card that come with the game are admittedly second-rate trinkets next to the game itself, but they're interesting too.
Leather Goddesses is a superb buy for everyone with a taste for adventure, children included, because to tell the truth I may have been guilty of slight exaggeration in describing the game (or then again, maybe not).
