Gunfright
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Gunfright on grafiikan osalta toteutettu minulle uudella tavalla. Sheriffin kävellessä katua pitkin "avautuvat" muuten tiellä olevat seinät paljastaen, mitä talon sisässä on. Grafiikka on siis ihan tyylikästä, samoin kannustimien helinä sheriffin astellessa katuja. Lähes adventure-tyyppinen Gunfright on hyvä peli, tosin joystick on käytännöllinen lisuke.
1987Have you ever considered becoming a policeman? If you have, then Gunfright is exactly the game for you. In it you have to know how to steer clear of decent folk and bump off wanted villains, who fetch special rewards depending on how dangerous the job is. If you happen to shoot an innocent person, you have to cough up whatever fine is in force at the time. You mustn't bump into anything except the walls of the houses and your horse, which loyally always waits in exactly the right spot. - Yes, you even have to pay for using the horse, as well as for the bullets for your six-shooter.
If you catch up with a wanted villain, you end up in a duel with him. Then it's best to act fast, because once he has drawn, the villain shoots you as full of holes as a sieve. While you're hunting villains, the good townsfolk are a help: the men point, trembling with fear, in the villain's direction. If you happen to run out of money, the residents "forget" moneybags in your path. The women, meanwhile, just keep trying to walk right into the sheriff, which can make the game immeasurably harder.
As far as the graphics go, Gunfright is done in a way that was new to me. As the sheriff walks along the street, walls that would otherwise be in the way "open up", revealing what is inside the house. So the graphics are quite stylish, as is the jingle of the spurs as the sheriff strides the streets. On the other hand, the game has some funny, downright parodic touches, such as the sheriff's hobby horse, and if the sheriff shoots innocent people, all that's left of him is his hat, etc. The black-and-white graphics tell us that life, after all, isn't as black and white as it is in the game. The almost adventure-style Gunfright is a good game, although a joystick is a handy extra.
