GFL Championship Football
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Yleisön hurraus soi korvissani. Kumarrun valmiiksi ja kuulen miten pelin johtaja karjuu hyökkäyskoodeja yrittäen saada äänensä kuuluviin katsojien melskeen yli. "...hike!", ja pallo on liikkeessä. Rynnistän eteenpäin muistaen pukuhuoneessa sovitut taktiikat. Päästyäni vapaaseen paikkaan quarterback leiskauttaa siannahan sentilleen sormiini. Nopea vilkaisu ympärille, reitti on selvä. Lähes. Eteeni ilmestyy yllättäen vastustajan puolustaja. Suoritan vartaloharhautuksen ja tyyppi puree nurmea. Pari viimeistä askelta ja touchdown!
Gamestarin Football on kerrassaan loistava! Lyhyesti sanoen paras amerikkalaisen jalkapallon simulaatio mitä olen koskaan pelannut.
1987The roar of the crowd rings in my ears. I crouch down, ready, and hear the signal caller bellowing the offensive codes, trying to make himself heard over the din of the spectators. "...hike!", and the ball is in play. I charge forward, remembering the tactics we agreed in the locker room. Once I get into open space, the quarterback whips the pigskin into my fingers, right to the inch. A quick glance around, the route is clear. Almost. An opposing defender suddenly appears in front of me. I pull a body feint and the guy bites the turf. A couple of last strides and touchdown!
Gamestar's Football is downright brilliant! In short, the best American football simulation I have ever played. The graphics are not the best possible, but they do their job better than well. There is no music, but the sound effects are massive. The thud of footsteps, the noise of the crowd and digitised speech - what more could you need for the perfect football game? The instructions are easy to understand and teach you everything you need in no time. There are minuses too, of course, but they mainly have to do with the cassette version's agonising loading system. Even if you know nothing about American football, it is still worth getting acquainted with. For anyone who already knows the game this is a compulsory purchase, and the two-player option opens up whole new dimensions in having fun with the C-64.
