Firetrack

1987Firetrack on tämän hetken kuumin shoot-em-up -peli. Pelin taustalla on maapallon kaoottinen tilanne 2200-luvulla.

Pelin maine erinomaisena tapa-ne-kaikki-pelinä on täysin perusteltua, sillä ammuttavaa todella löytyy.

1987Firetrack is the hottest shoot-em-up of the moment. The game's backdrop is the chaotic state of planet Earth in the 23rd century. At the start of the century Pirate Industries had founded colonies in the asteroid belt surrounding our planet. Before long, those left behind on the Earth's surface realised that Pirate Industries was starting to cut itself off from the Earth completely. Cooperation talks that were already under way were broken off, and the Pirate Wars began.

The pirate companies built their colonies around four basic models: Baseworld, Dustworld, Iceworld and Mallworld. Every colony has its own nuclear reactor, which produces all the energy the community needs. Destroy the reactor and the colony loses its power source for a while. The asteroids do have automatic repair systems, though, so you always have to attack an asteroid at least twice in order to take out the repairers as well.

As if that weren't enough already, the asteroids also hold the mysterious White Light, from which an all-destroying weapon can be made. Your most important task as the pilot of the HatchFighter is, in fact, to stop the White Light being used as a weapon.

The game's reputation as an excellent kill-'em-all game is entirely justified, because there really is plenty to shoot at. You don't even have to press the fire button yourself: in their honest, peace-loving way, the guns spit out bullets nonstop. You can get straight to any of the first three asteroids by pressing the right key, and on each asteroid you can always continue the game from the level where you last died.

Graphics-wise Firetrack is in no way revolutionary, but it is still very good. The same could be said of the sound side too. A good game, but no sensation.
