Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1987Ocean on tehnyt oman Spectrum-versionsa tutuista urheilupeleistä Summer Games, Decathlon ja HesGames.
Tässä versiossa kilpaillaan kahdeksassa eri lajissa: pistooliammunnassa, pyöräilyssä, uimahypyissä, suurpujottelussa, soudussa, jalkapallossa, mäkihypyssä ja köydenvedossa.
Pelin tarkoitus on sama kuin muissakin tämänkaltaisissa peleissä: pelaajan pitää hakata kahta näppäintä näppäimistöllä niin nopeasti kuin mahdollista, jotta saisi video-ukon liikkumaan tarpeeksi nopeasti. Jos pelaa ilotikulla, pitää heiluttaa sauvaa mahdollisimman nopeasti edestakaisin. Vastapelaajana toimii tietokone. Eräissä lajeissa ei tarvitse hakata näppäimistöä, vaan hyvä tulos saavutetaan oikealla ajoituksella.
Jalkapallossa potkaistaan maaleja tietokoneen vahtimaan maaliin. Mäkihypyssä ei nähdä pelkästään hyppääjää, vaan myös sivukuva mäkihyppytornista sekä hyppyri ylhäältä katsottuna. Tämä antaa hypylle enemmän todellisuuden tuntua, koska myös laskeutumisen kulma on otettava huomioon. Yleisesti ottaen hyvään tulokseen tarvitaan enemmän nopeita reaktioita kuin strategista mietintää.
Grafiikka, värit ja scrollaus ovat hyvin toteutetut, ja jopa äänitehosteetkin on hyvin tehty. Super Testissä riittää viehätystä enemmän kuin tämäntyyppiseltä peliltä saattaisi odottaa.
1987Ocean has made its own Spectrum version of the familiar sports games Summer Games, Decathlon and HesGames.
In this version you compete in eight different events: pistol shooting, cycling, diving, giant slalom, rowing, football, ski jumping and tug-of-war.
The point of the game is the same as in all the other games of this kind: the player has to hammer two keys on the keyboard as fast as possible to get the little video man moving fast enough. If you play with a joystick, you have to waggle the stick back and forth as fast as you can. The computer acts as your opponent. In some events you don't have to hammer the keyboard; instead a good result comes from getting the timing right.
In the football you kick goals into a goal guarded by the computer. In the ski jump you don't just see the jumper, but also a side view of the ski-jump tower and the take-off ramp seen from above. This gives the jump more of a feel of reality, since the landing angle has to be taken into account too. Generally speaking, a good result calls for quick reactions more than strategic pondering.
The graphics, colours and scrolling have been well done, and even the sound effects are well made. Super Test has more charm to it than you might expect from a game of this type.
