Auf Wiedersehen Monty

1987Monty Mole (suomalaisittain vaikka Mauri Myyrä) palaa jälleen kuvaruutuihin, kun Gremlin Graphics maksimoi voittojaan hyödyntämällä tätä jo kulttihahmoksi muodostunutta elukkaa. Tällä kertaa opastat Klepto-Montya ympäri Eurooppaa tämän näpistellessä kaikenlaista tarpeellista tavaraa ostaakseen itselleen unelmasaaren Kreikasta.

Pelin idea on kasvatuksellisesti hieman arveluttava.

1987Monty Mole (in Finnish, say, Mauri Myyrä) is back on screens once again, as Gremlin Graphics maximises its profits by cashing in on this critter, who has already become a cult figure. This time you guide Klepto-Monty around Europe on a spree of pilfering all sorts of useful stuff, all to buy a dream island in Greece.

The game's idea is a little dubious from an educational point of view. Children are taught from a tender age that crime doesn't pay, and what does Gremlin Graphics do? It throws a Monty trilogy into the ring that shatters that myth in one fell swoop. But what does it matter? The game itself is a rather fun jumping game, which you'd certainly sooner play than take a beating from the biggest brute in the class.

The graphics are perfectly tolerable, with multicoloured backgrounds and single-colour sprites. Monty obeys the joystick admirably, so there's no point bouncing your joystick off the walls if the game isn't going well. As for the music, it's probably enough to mention that it was done by the maestro himself, Rob Hubbard. One special feature worth mentioning is Monty's lively dance moves in time with the music.

The game is weighed down, though, by the sheer age of the idea, and since nothing remarkable has been come up with to add to it, it's hard to work up any interest in it. When all's said and done, it's just a slightly better-than-average jumping game among a thousand others.
