Ace of Aces
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Pelissä pääset englantilaisen Mosquito-koneen ohjaimiin puolustamaan Britannian ilmatilaa ja suorittamaan erilaisia iskuja.
Alussa valitset suoritettavan tehtävän. Onnistunut tehtävä vaatii tietysti myös paluun kotikentälle.
Tämän jälkeen valitset sopivat varusteet, pommeja, raketteja, ammuksia, polttoainetta. Ja sitten oletkin valmis nousuun.
Kuvaruudulla näkyy lentoonlähtösi, ja kohta oletkin Englannin kanaalin yllä tehtävääsi kohden lentämässä.
Viholliskoneiden ilmestyessä voit joko taistella niitä vastaan tai koettaa piiloutua pilvien suojaan. Koko ajan sinun on koetettava pitää suunta kohteisiisi, joita voivat olla esim. pommikoneet, junat sukellusveneet tai V1-raketit.
Koneen ohjaamossa näet korkeus- ja nopeusmittarit, tutkan, tekohorisontin ja kompassin. Välillä sinun on tarkkailtava karttaa ja mahdollisia vaurioilmoituksia. Myös moottorien tehosta täytyy huolehtia.
Pommituksen onnistumiseksi sinun on valittava oikea lentokorkeus ja avattava pommiluukut oikealla hetkellä.
Peli voi aluksi tuntua vaikealta, mutta parin pelin jälkeen oppii oikeat niksit ja pystyy nauttimaan hienoista suorituksista.
Koska peli ei ole varsinainen simulaattori, se kiinnostanee monia pelaajia, varsinkin vaikkapa tutun Dambustersin ystäviä.
1987In this game you take the controls of an English Mosquito aircraft to defend British airspace and carry out various strikes.
At the start you choose the mission you will fly. A successful mission, of course, also means making it back to your home airfield.
After that you choose suitable equipment: bombs, rockets, ammunition, fuel. And then you are ready for take-off.
The screen shows your take-off, and soon you are over the English Channel, flying towards your mission.
When enemy aircraft appear, you can either fight them or try to hide in the cover of the clouds. All the while you have to try to keep your heading towards your targets, which may be, for example, bombers, trains, submarines or V1 rockets.
In the cockpit you can see the altimeter and airspeed indicator, the radar, the artificial horizon and the compass. From time to time you have to keep an eye on the map and any damage reports. You also have to look after the power of your engines.
For a bombing run to succeed, you have to choose the right altitude and open the bomb bay doors at the right moment.
The game may feel difficult at first, but after a couple of goes you pick up the right tricks and can start enjoying some fine feats of flying.
Since the game is not a simulator as such, it will probably appeal to many players, especially fans of, say, the familiar Dambusters.
