Stealth Mission

Varsinaiset ongelmat alkavat ilmassa. 16-bittisten vauhtiin tottuneelle 64:n kankea ruudunpäivitys on silkkaa tuskaa ja ohjausliikkeet lyövät karkeasti yli. Täytetyn vektorigrafiikan saa muutettua nappulan painalluksella hieman nopeammaksi viivagrafiikaksi, mutta SubLogicin normaalit graafiset temput, kuten spot-koneet, lennonjohtotorninäkymät ja vastaavat, menettävät tehonsa.

Stealth Mission on Project: Stealth Fighteriin verrattuna silminnähden hitaampi ja vaikeampi, koska simulaatiopuolta on korostettu, mutta paljon monipuolisempi. Suositellaan vain simulaationnälkäisille.

1989 KevätSubLogic's Flight Simulator II and JET are surely familiar to every flight simulator fan. And if simulators are your favourite topic when talk turns to computer games, Microprose can't be a new acquaintance either. Microprose's Project: Stealth Fighter sat the player at the controls of modern technology's latest achievement, the F-19 Stealth Fighter, and now SubLogic's Stealth Mission follows in its afterburner's wake.

In Stealth Mission there are three planes to choose from: the F-19, the experimental X-29 and the old workhorse, the F-14 Tomcat. Before flying, however, you have to make a staggering number of choices concerning the time of day, armament and the nature of the mission, to mention just a few. When the instrument panel finally appears, the novice stealther is completely lost with the controls. Nearly every key controls something, but thanks to a good manual and keyboard chart, it doesn't take long to get airborne.

The real problems start in the air. For someone used to the speed of the 16-bits, the 64's sluggish screen update is sheer agony, and the control inputs overshoot badly. At the press of a button the filled vector graphics can be switched to slightly faster wireframe graphics, but SubLogic's usual graphical tricks, such as spot planes, control tower views and the like, lose their punch.

Compared with Project: Stealth Fighter, Stealth Mission is visibly slower and harder, because the simulation side has been emphasised, but it is much more versatile. Recommended only for the simulation-hungry.
