Jet Bomber

1987You are in the middle of the enemy base and your aim is to blast everything that comes your way with your laser. At the start you are met by hexagonal boxes, spherical fuel tanks and rockets flying upwards. The fuel tanks earn you bonus points. Small projectiles also whizz about all over the battlefield. As the game goes on you have to work hard to dodge the missiles heading your way. Later on there are various other objects to shoot, which you must destroy to get any further. You can fire both forwards and downwards.

The game is a sorry copy of the 64 space game Zaxxon, but what's better in this version is the speech synthesiser, which speaks fairly understandable English. The original version has no such refinement at all. The game also has pretty good title music, lifted from a film called Star Wars. The other sounds (effects) are not much good. You get fed up with their simplicity (the noise generator) pretty quickly.

The overall impression of the graphics is above average, and the game's three-dimensionality improves it further still. As in all other proper 3-D games, the shadows of the craft and the missiles show on the ground, adding interest to the game.
