Sky Ranger
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1987Sky Ranger on helikopterisimulaattori, joka ei pyri kovinkaan suureen todenmukaisuuteen. Tehtäväsi on yksinkertaisesti partioida kaupungin talojen välissä ja ampua vartijoita. Vartijat ovat seonneita poliisirobotteja. Jos osuu johonkin rakennukseen, näkökenttään ilmestyy halkeamia, ja kolmen osuman jälkeen peli loppuu. Lentäminen kolmiulotteisten talojen välissä on toteutettu varsin hienosti. Ei olekaan kumma että peli vie muistin niin täysin, että mittaristojen kuvatkin on pakko ladata suoraan kuvaruutuun.
Vaikka pelin kannessa onkin vuosiluku 1986, niin peliä myytiin jo pari vuotta sitten, tosin paljon kalliimmalla. Nyt halpasarjassa se saattaa mennä kaupaksi niille kopteristeille, joilla ei ole varaa DI:n Tomahawkiin.
1987Sky Ranger is a helicopter simulator that doesn't strive for any great degree of realism. Your task is simply to patrol between the city's buildings and shoot the guards. The guards are police robots that have gone haywire. If you hit a building, cracks appear across your field of view, and after three hits the game is over. Flying between the three-dimensional buildings has been done rather impressively. Small wonder, then, that the game eats up the memory so completely that even the instrument panel graphics have to be loaded straight onto the screen.
Although the game's cover bears the year 1986, the game was already on sale a couple of years ago, albeit at a much higher price. Now, in the budget range, it may well find buyers among those chopper jockeys who can't afford DI's Tomahawk.
